WOAHHH!!
Talk about an EARTHY wine!....
...this statement can be taken either in a good way if you like that kinda wine....
...or the wrong way if you're not familiar with that kinda wine...
For me, well, eek, I did hesitate it for a good while.
What I mean by earthy...
I am talking dirt, manure, dampness, heavy scent, manure, and some scent of manure.
(Did I mention manure?)
When I was rotating the glass to let the wine breath, I can immediately smell this earthy aroma as it was coming out straight into my nostril.
I have had many earthy wines before and this is just like one of those.
It's an acquired taste, so it's really up to the drinker....either you like it or you don't.
I took a sip, rotate it in my mouth, swallowed, and ...
semi-corse with a tang at the beginning and an earthy textured finish at the back of my mouth.
Taste...not bad.
Aroma....eek, something to have to get used to.
I let it sit.
My glass was there in front of me...untouched for awhile....meanwhile hubby has gone through probably 2 more glasses of this wine.
I took a sip again.
Perhaps I got a little used to the aroma....or perhaps I didn't let it get to me at this point...but it was 'better' then before. I finished the glass.
Still earthy.
So like I said, earthy wines are not bad at all....but it's an acquired taste.
Something I can see myself getting used to just like corse wine.
I hated corse wine when I first started drinking red wine. Of course, at early 20, I liked all drinks to be fruity and cute.
As I grew older and was introduced to great wine, all kinds of wine, I have acquired the tastebuds to enjoy a more corse wine. I used to love Brouilly wines for it's full bodied sweetness....and now, byack!
So earthy wines are something of a great quality, I believe...but something to get used to.
So having said that, I do recommend this wine for its earthy qualities.
3 stars out of 5 is, for me, reasonable as I don't hate it and I don't love it. And for the price of 14.85CAN, definitely worth it.
